Fund Raising

Charity Week 2014

The Saoirse Foundation & The Social Action Group, Rathmore.

Raheen National School held a charity week in aid of BUMBLEance – The Saoirse Foundation and The Social Action Group, Rathmore from Monday 7th of April to Friday the 11th of April 2014.  A range of fundraising events were organised for the week including a market day, a sponsored walk, a jersey day, cheerleading classes, hurling activities, a movie afternoon and much more.   The charity week instils in each child the importance of sharing, helping others and giving to those that may be less fortune.  The charity week is held in the school biannually and coincides with the Sacrament of Confirmation which emphasises the importance of sharing and helping others. The two worthy charities, chosen by the children, provide invaluable assistance, resources and help to people of all ages throughout our community.

The children of Raheen National School kick-started the fund-raising back in February when they went on “The Biddies”. The children from third to sixth class played music, sang songs, told stories and danced sets for many households in the local area on the night.  They managed to raise over €400 on the night and provided great entertainment for both young and old throughout the evening.  The eight pupils of 5th and 6th class also generously donated some of their Confirmation money towards the fundraising efforts.

During the month of March we were delighted to have a representative from The Saoirse Foundation, along with the BUMBLEance, visit our school and provide us with lots of information about the charity including the Liam’s Lodge Project and BUMBLEance.  The charity are hoping to provide a BUMBLEance service nationwide by providing each province with its very own specialised ambulance service for sick children.  The children also learned about Laim’s Lodge which will be Ireland’s first rare disease respite centre and it is currently being built outside Tralee and aims to be open in 2015.  The Social Action Group in Rathmore is a charity organisation that is very familiar to the children of the school and the services provided by this organisation are availed of regularly by the children and by members of the local community for birthday parties, camps, discos and many other social events.

Over €2000 was raised over the course of the week and the support of the local community and school parents was particularly evident during the Market Day where the children set up stalls in the school hall and sold a range of product to locals including home-baked goods, free-range eggs, turf, timber, toys, games, clothes and much more.

The children will present the money raised to both charities during the next school term when they will visit the Social Action Group in Rathmore and a representative from The Saoirse Foundation will be presented with the cheque when she visits the school again.

Charity Week 2012

In 2012 the pupils of Raheen N.S. decided to support Bóthar during their Charity Week.

The generosity of the pupils of Raheen National School was clearly evident when they recently hosted a hugely successful charity week in aid of Bóthar.  The events throughout the week proved to be a great success, with the pupils raising in excess of €1580.  The pupils took part in a range of events to help raise the funds including a sponsored walk, a jersey day, a table quiz and a market day was also held in the school hall.  The proceeds of the charity week were presented to a representative from Bóthar along with a list of the animals the children wished to purchase.  The animals the children decided to purchase with the money included a camel, goats and water buffalo.  These donations will help improve the lives of many families throughout Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe. Raising in excess of €1580 was an amazing achievement for the thirty pupils of the school.

Congratulations and well done to all involved!
