Save Our School

If We Save our School We Will Save our Community – Protest March, Pairc Ui Chaoimh

Sunday 18th March

We want to draw attention to all the good work being done in Kerry & Cork schools and to give a demonstration of our collective abilities as communities. We want to showcase the importance of schools to the GAA and give a powerful example of the vital role our schools play in the promotion of Gaelic Games, Irish culture and the Irish language. We want to showcase the contribution we are making to Irish life. We need to harness the support of our comminities and GAA clubs to demonstrate how interdependent schools and community life in Kerry is. We want to fill the stadium  and give a display of the people power of both our counties.

It is vital that all 2, 3 &  4 teacher schools take part in this (even if you feel that you are not in immediate danger from the cutbacks) so as to ensure the voice of your school is heard. Even if your school is not affected in the short term rural schools often suffer dramatic rises and falls in enrolment so it is likely that this will be an issue for all rural schools in years to come. A vibrant show of colour from all our communities on the day in the national media would send a powerful message to the government that community life in Kerry and Cork is alive and well and will not lie down in the face of the many obstacles that are facing it.

Raheen Parents Association are organising a bus to the event. Please email raheenpa@gmail.com to reserve a place.
