May 2015

Lots and Lots happening since we returned from our Easter Holidays…..

Check out our very popular facebook page…

Our junior room are focusing their attention on Aistear at the moment.  Lots of information about Aistear available here

Paramedics & Ambulance Service

We were thrilled to have two paramedics visit the school and teach us all about the work and life of a paramedic.  They explained about the various machines and equipment they use on a daily basis along with demonstrating how these machines worked.  They checked Norissa’s and Ms. Kelliher’s blood pressure, oxygen levels, heart rate and a few other vitals….both got a clean bill of health!  We all got to see inside the ambulance too.  We saw the equipment on the ambulance along with the panic button, radios, cameras, protective clothing and lots of other bits and pieces.  Last but by no means least we got a chance to turn on the siren and the lights….it was a very exciting day!  Thanks for taking the time to teach us all about the ambulance service!

Shouts of “BINGO” ring out on Fridays in Raheen where all the children play BINGO in the school hall as Gaeilge.  It’s proving to be a very exciting event every week, where a jackpot of €1 is given to anyone that is lucky enough to be a winner on the day!

 First Holy Communion

Our two second class boys did the school very proud when they received their First Holy Communion on May 9th in St. Agatha’s Church in Glenflesk.  They were beautifully attired for the occasion and performed a beautiful hymn on the day. Congratulation and Well Done boys!

Our annual WOW reading initiative has got off to a great start again this year.  The children are reading a huge array of books including fact and fiction books that incorporate a wide variety of genres and topics…. history, geography, science, SPHE, general knowledge, fairy tales, narratives, reports, procedures, recounts, poetry and much more.  We’re hoping to beat our previous record of 630 books!  All will be revealed in early June…

Motor Skills

We’re focusing on improving our gross motor skills throughout the school for Term 3.  This includes focusing on hand-eye coordination, ball handling skills, skipping, agility and many more athletic skills.

Thanks to Eugene for organising our entry into the Super 7’s basketball tournament.  He also trained us and presented us with our medals for entering the competition.

Rose of Kerry

We were honoured to have Julett Culloty, this year’s Kerry Rose, visit us and speak to us about the Rose Festival and her hopes to raise awareness of various health issues through highlighting the need for us all to make healthy decisions and be more health conscience in general.  We were the first school Julett visited so we are hoping for a mention on the telly on the night!!  Thanks Julett and best wishes!
